Talk about new U.S. initiatives in agriculture to address climate change and sustainability

The library is honored to have a keynote speaker for a last of our series of talks for the program “Think Big, Think Green”: Kate Snipes. Kate works for the Foreign Agricultural Service at the US Embassy in Paris and will be talking about new US initiatives in agriculture to address climate change and sustainability.

This will be a 40-minute talk followed by a question-and-answer session. This talk is free and open to the public and will be accessible by Zoom. Click here for Zoom link. We will be letting people into the Zoom session starting at 9:45.

“Thing Big, Think Green” has an exciting project for the library to focus on creating a trans-Atlantic discussion about sustainability. The program has included Zoom meetings between students, workshops, tours of farms, keynote speakers and a pertinent selection of books. The hopes were to create a forum to support an exchange on how we can make our food consumption more sustainable, healthier and more respectful of the planet Earth. “Think Big, Thing Green” is a timely opportunity for the library’s community to engage in discussion about the future! This program has been made possible with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America, France.

They won 3rd prize in the 2004 national vegetable garden contest.

Saturday Reading Group

Saturday Reading Group | 29/05/2021 | 3:00 pm-4:30 pm

Saturday Reading Group

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people.

Exceptionally, the session will not be held at the library. Participants will meet in front of the library and leave at 3 pm sharp to walk to “La Cour” (23 rue de la Roë). The number of participants is limited to 6 so sign up is mandatory by Thursday 27 May. To sign up, send an email to the group coordinator at bookgroup@ellia.org.

The May read for the group is Among Schoolchildren by Tracy Kidder. Tracy Kidder–the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Soul of a New Machine and the extraordinary national bestseller House–spent nine months in Mrs. Zajac’s fifth-grade classroom in the depressed “Flats” of Holyoke, Massachusetts. For an entire year he lived among twenty schoolchildren and their indomitable, compassionate teacher–sharings their joys, their catastrophes, and their small but essential triumphs. As a result, he has written a revealing, remarkably poignant account of education in America…and his most memorable, emotionally charged, and important book to date.

Meetings are once a month on Saturday afternoons starting at 3 pm. Open to all library members. To sign up please contact the group coordinator at bookgroup@ellia.org.
