The Book Club meets once a month to discuss a book, preselected by its members.
When and where: Meetings are held at the library on a Friday afternoon from 2:30 to 4 pm from September to June.
Cost: All members of the library can join the Book Club free of charge.
To join: If you are an avid reader in English and you are interested in expressing your views after reading the choice of the month, please contact the President of the Book Club.
“Books and Tea” is a monthly meeting for bookworms. Bring a book you’ve really enjoyed, talk about it and then pass it on!
When and where: Meetings are once a month on a Thursday afternoon, location to be announced.

This is a way to connect newcomers and locals of the area. New to our area? Get in touch with the library and we will buddy you up with a volunteer who can answer your questions! Want to be a volunteer to help newcomers through the ropes? Come sign up! The library will play the middle-man!
When and where: Buddies will choose their meeting place and time, but the library invites you to come in and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you chat.
Cost: Free of charge to library members.

What better way to get a head start on a relaxing weekend with a Friday morning steaming-hot-cup-of-coffee-and-sit-and-chat-in-the-library?
When and where: Coffee and tea are served every Friday morning at the library from 9 to 11 am. Members come in to chat informally about different subjects in English. This activity takes place from September to June. Discontinued during school holidays.
Cost: Coffee House is free of charge for our members. Contributions are welcomed!

Weekly conversation groups in English to discuss various subjects in the presence of a native English speaker. Groups have a maximum of 12 participants.
When and where: Sessions are held at the English-Language Library from September to June. Discontinued during school holidays.
Cost: 140€ for the year (plus library membership).

For those who have recently arrived in the area and whose French needs a bit of brushing up, the library offers a weekly conversation group in French.
When and where: Every Friday from 11 to 12 am at the library. This activity takes place from October to June of each year, and is discontinued during school holidays.
Cost: 60€ for the year for an individual (90€ for a couple) plus library membership.

The Drama Club offers an evening of theatrical fun every fortnight. This activity is open to adults and students, with or without acting experience. It will consist of miming, improvising, and acting out published works of theater, such as sketches and plays.
When and where: Meetings take place at the library twice a month (except during school holidays) on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Please attend regularly.
Cost: 90€ for the year

English in Action is a program that matches a non-English speaker with an English speaker for one-on-one conversational English that lasts 6 hours. This program is available to anyone over 18 years old.
When and where: The first meeting is at the library to introduce the volunteer to the participant. The following meetings can take place at the library or outside of the library. The 6 hours can be scheduled in agreement between the two partners.

Cost: 90€ for 6 hours plus membership (to be paid at the first meeting).

The Garden Club is made of members interested in gardening who want to visit gardens, both private and public. Members do not have to be active gardeners but should appreciate gardens. Visits can be in French or in English.
When and where: A schedule of visits is devised at the beginning of the year and are usually organized on Thursdays once a month in February, April, May, June, July, September and October. Visits are mostly in Maine-et-Loire but are sometimes outside of the Maine-et-Loire.
Cost: The Garden Club is free of charge for members. Individuals are asked to pay their own admission fee if there is one.

For music lovers who are not necessarily musicians, the library presents a series of sessions aiming at illustrating the heritage of English Classical Music in its most specific and beautiful forms, mainly vocal music. Each session focuses on a composer, with a short presentation of the work and the composer, followed by the listening of selected pieces through selected videos, often with different interpretations. The point is to share comments and criticism with the group members.

When and where: Love those French restaurants? Feel like you need to speak English more but in a relaxed atmosphere? Join this club which schedules a lunch in a great local restaurant. For more information and the full schedule contact June Duckworth. Open to members.
The library organizes activities and loans collections to libraries inside and outside of the Maine-et-Loire. Please go to our Outside the Library page to see where this network of libraries is.
When and where: The English-Language Library organizes an evening of pizza and board games once per month on a Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm.
Cost: 7€ (covers pizza and non-alcoholic beverages). 5€ for native-English speakers and for children ages 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Open to members and non-members.
This activity is a COLLECTIVE reading of a Shakespeare play organized by a native English speaker for a maximum of 10 participants.
When and where: This activity takes place on a Friday afternoon from 3 to 4:30 pm. Please consult dates on the events calendar.
Cost: Reading Shakespeare is free of charge for members.

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people. A new book is chosen each month by members to read and discuss.
When and where: Meetings will be held in the library once a month on Saturday afternoons starting at 3:00.

If you love needlecraft, this activity is for you! Each participant will make a textile creation of their choice, (bag, pouch, wall tapestry, whatever you fancy!) all while exchanging different techniques in English.
When and where: Bring your own materials and join us at the library once a month on Thursday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m. on the following dates: September 20th, October 11th, November 8th and December 6th.
Cost: Free to all library members.

The library is an authorised test center for the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test (the Test of English for International Communication). If you have any questions please contact the library or consult our TOEIC page.
When and where: TOEIC testing takes place at ESSCA, a business school in Angers. Tests are scheduled approximately once a month, typically Wednesday or Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
How to sign up for the test: Click here to register or for more information visit the official website. You do not need to be a member of the library to take this test. An identity card with a photo is mandatory on the day of the test.
When and where: Get outside and enjoy the beautiful hiking paths of the Maine-et-Loire. An easy walk is organized once a month – approximately 10 km, 2 to 3 hours, in the afternoon. Maximum group is 20 so make sure to sign up!
Cost: Free of charge for members
