Pizza and board games

Join us for our ever-popular game night and pizza party! Cost is 7 euros (covers pizza and non-alcoholic drinks, 5 euros for native English speakers and children under 13). Event starts at 6 pm sharp. Last entry at 6:15 pm. First come, first serve with 40 participants max. Children under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult.

The film club presents "Girl with a Pearl Earring"

The film club presents a film in English once a month on a Saturday afternoon.

This showing will be of Girl with a Pearl Earring, a 2003 drama film directed by Peter Webber from a screenplay by Olivia Hetreed, based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Tracy Chevalier. Scarlett Johansson stars as Griet, a young 17th-century servant in the household of the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer (played by Colin Firth) at the time he painted Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665) in the city of Delft in Holland. Other cast members include Tom Wilkinson, Cillian Murphy, Essie Davis, and Judy Parfitt.

Screening begins at 3 o’clock sharp and will be followed by a discussion in English. This activity is free and open to all library members.

Treat yourself to an afternoon of a collective reading of one of Shakespeare’s plays. This activity consists of watching a BBC production on DVD and then reading relative scenes. Presentation on Angers' Sister Cities

Did you know that the city of Angers has 10 different twin towns spread throughout the world? Every year the city hosts three young people to serve as “ambassadors” to live in Angers for the year, working for the city to foster partnerships and to share their culture with local Angevins.

On February 9th, our three ambassadors : David Tristan of Valencia, Spain, Caroline Wielage of Osnabrück, Germany, and Emily Persons of Austin, Texas will each give a short presentation about their hometowns with time for a question and answers afterwards.

Needles loaned and stitches guided.

Knitted garments are très chic,

So be in vogue and start this week.

Knit and Natter is a free activity, open to all library members. No need to reserve, just come and enjoy! If anyone has some extra yarn please bring it in.

If you enjoy exploring all forms of textile and multimedia art, this activity is for you.

We experiment with many different techniques (embroidery, weaving, patchwork, quilting, collages…) and we take pleasure in sharing and exploring various types of work together.

Lately we have completed individual and shared projects which may be displayed.

Welcome to “Write Here, Write Now”!

Writing and sharing : join this series of workshops for people who love to write in English and don’t mind sharing what they’ve written (although this sharing is not mandatory). We’ll explore different themes and genres. Keenan Brown, a library volunteer, will guide you through different ways to stimulate your writing, keep you inspired, all in the company of lovers of literature.

“You can make anything by writing” (C.S. Lewis). Following Lewis’s invitation, let’s explore the world at large, as well as your own secret gardens through words…while discovering the unknown realms of the writing of others.

Workshops will be run Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the library once a month. They are free for library members (maximum of 10 participants). For more information and/or to sign up, please contact the group leader.

Anglofams Winter Playdate at Dreamland

Anglofams is an international community designed to connect English-speaking families with kids of all ages in the area. Parents can share stories and resources, seek advice, and provide a casual, social environment for their children to meet other bilingual kids.

February’s meet up will be at Dreamland.  (Located in Centre commercial de l’Atoll between Intersport and Darty.)

This event is open to all library members.  Families are asked to cover their own cost of entrance.
