Walk and Talk

Get on those hiking boots and take some time to revel in the great outdoors! The group “Walk and Talk” organises an easy walk once a month – approximately 10 km, 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon – in order to discover or re-discover the beautiful hiking paths of the Maine-et-Loire. Come along with good walking shoes, protection against rain, cold or heat according to the season…. a bottle of water and a little “en-cas” to keep your stamina up !

Maximum group is 20 so make sure to sign up!

The Big Quiz

The Big Quiz is back for the 12th edition! Come to the library for an afternoon of fun… if you’re a fan of Trivial Pursuit, you will LOVE this!

As ever, the quiz is a team event. Each team has its own table for 6 people. You can enter as a team of six; or you can simply join a team which is partially complete… you might make some great new friends!

Each team has a designated colour, and team members may choose to wear clothes of that hue. The teams will be called Whiter Shade of Pale, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Greensleeves, Brown Sugar, Black Eyed PeasSimply Red, Blueberry Hill, Orange Crush, Yellow Submarine.

It’s on Sunday, 26th March. We start at 2:30 pm, sharp…  don’t be late, or you’ll miss some questions. There will be questions of all sorts – some topical, some general knowledge, some about France… and so on.  Wine, coffee, tea, and nibbles will be available. All this for just 12 euros per person

It’s the ultimate win-win: support the library and enjoy the fun, the friendship, the laughter…and  perhaps you will learn something new!

Reading Shakespeare

Treat yourself to an afternoon of a collective reading of one of Shakespeare’s plays. This activity consists of watching a BBC production on DVD and then reading relative scenes. Come along and bring your knitting,

Have a natter while you’re sitting,

Or learn to knit with wool provided,

Needles loaned and stitches guided.

Knitted garments are très chic,

So be in vogue and start this week.

Knit and Natter is a free activity, open to all library members. No need to reserve, just come and enjoy! If anyone has some extra yarn please bring it in.

Talk and Poetry Reading

Come and enjoy our Talk and Poetry reading for the “Printemps des Poètes” festival with poets Maryvonne COAT and Joël BASTARD who will be discussing the national theme “FRONTIERES” as well as their journey as poets.Please note that the talk will be in French.

Our dear members of “Write Here Write Now”, the writing workshop of the library, will then read some of Maryvonne and Joël’s poems, as well as their own, written during a special poetry workshop session, both in French and in English.

Think “CROSSING THE BARRIER”

  • Geographical boundaries, inner boundaries

“Books and Tea” is a monthly meeting for bookworms and tea drinkers. Bring a book you’ve really enjoyed, talk about it and pass it on! The group meets from 2:15 to 3:45. Note that the group will be meeting at La Cour…23 rue de la Roe. No need to sign up, just come and enjoy!

  • conversations while playing the game,
  • comments and remarks before, during and after the game,
  • second thoughts,
  • not taking oneself too seriously,

…in a nutshell, MBES (Mini Bridge Exclusive Society) proposes a different concept from the competing conventional Bridge Clubs.

The happening is happening again!!!

Take two published poets, Joël Bastard and Maryvonne Coat and put them in the same room with two musicians Blaise Desol and Tilda Lien and see what happens! That is the whole idea behind a happening…a unique performance not to be missed!

This program falls within the context of the Printemps des Poètes 2023 (the French national celebration of poetry) and has been organised with the collaboration of the MIEL (Maison internationale des écritures et des littératures) with the support of the Ville d’Angers.
