Books and tea

“Books and Tea” is a monthly meeting, on a Thursday, for bookworms and tea drinkers. Bring a book you’ve really enjoyed, talk about it and pass it on! The group meets from 2:15 to 3:45. Note that the group will be meeting at La P’tite Cigogne, 23 rue du Musée in Angers. No need to sign up, just come and enjoy!

Textile Arts & Crafts Workshop

If you enjoy exploring all forms of textile and multimedia art, this activity is for you.

We experiment with many different techniques (embroidery, weaving, patchwork, quilting, collages…) and we take pleasure in sharing and exploring various types of work together.

Lately we have completed individual and shared projects which may be displayed.

No previous expertise required. Just come and join us!

Join the library community for a special moment to talk about anything and everything (in English of course!). Just come in and chat with others, have a cuppa and enjoy the company! Coffee House is free and open to all library members. No need to reserve! Donations welcome as always!

Knit and Natter

Come along and bring your knitting,

Have a natter while you’re sitting,

Or learn to knit with wool provided,

Needles loaned and stitches guided.

Knitted garments are très chic,

So be in vogue and start this week.

Knit and Natter is a free activity, open to all library members. No need to reserve, just come and enjoy! If anyone has some extra yarn please bring it in.

The June read for the book club is “The Woman Who Walked into Doors” by Roddy Doyle.

“The Woman Who Walked Into Doors is a beautifully written novel about a horrific subject, it tells the story of Paula Spencer, a middle-aged alcoholic housecleaner and beaten wife who finally finds the strength to escape her sadistic husband, Charlo.”

Come discover our collection of 25,000 books in English and assortment of cultural activities!

This day is an excellent opportunity to discover the English-language Library in Angers.  We are a registered non-profit organization and proudly house the second-largest collection of English-language books in France. We currently have over 1,300 members from 72 different countries.  You are welcome to join us to:

  • Visit our space
  • Get to know our staff and volunteers
  • Learn about our cultural activities and events
  • Participate in our activity free trials (by reservation only)

Program for activity free trials:

14h – 14:45 | ENGLISH CONVERSATION GROUP (Adults)

15h – 15:45 |  ENGLISH CAMP (Collégiens)

16h – 16:45 | CHILDREN’S HOUR (3-6 years old)

Anglofams Potluck Barbecue

Anglofams is an international community designed to connect English-speaking families with kids of all ages in the area. Parents can share stories and resources, seek advice, and provide a casual, social environment for their children to meet other bilingual kids.

June’s meet up will be a Potluck Barbecue.

This event is open to all library members.  Families are asked to cover their own cost of entrance.

Atelier d'Anglais pour collégiens: Sea, Sun & Fun

“Sea, Sun and Fun” is a 3-day English-learning workshop for collégiens. Participants learn English in a fun, interactive way with games, songs and activities with lots of talking and moving around! The workshop will be at the library for three consecutive afternoons of three hours each, from 2 to 5 pm.

Garden Club visit | 04/07/2024 | 2:30 pm-4:00 pm

Garden Club visit

On Thursday, July 4, the Garden Club will visit the Parc & Jardin du Chateau d’Epiré, rue de l’Ancienne Eglise, in Savennieres (https://www.chateau-epire.com/en/). This garden, potager, and vineyard has existed non-stop since 1882. The owner will provide a visit of the family estate, and the Epiré church, which is right next to the park.  He can also give us access to the Savennieres church, which has rare paintings, if there is enough interest.  Feel free to bring snacks to have under a tree after the visit. The visit costs 7€. You can find more information on their site: https://www.chateau-epire.com/en/

If you would like to join for lunch, a noon reservation has been made at A Table Chez Mili, 1 rue Thierry Sandre in Savennieres.  This restaurant offers a menu for 16€ that includes entrée, plat, dessert, and coffee.  There is only one choice on the menu each day; however, if you are vegetarian or otherwise have a special diet, please let me know in advance.

Please send an email to GardenClubELLIA@yahoo.com no later than June 20th if you are interested, indicating whether you will come to just the visit or come for both the visit and the lunch.  Also, indicate whether or not you are interested in visiting the church with the rare paintings.


Saturday Reading Group | 06/07/2024 | 3:00 pm-4:30 pm

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people.
