We’re so grateful for the many friends of the library in the United States who have supported us over the years. As we prepare for our move to our new home, we’d love to share an exciting new way for you to be part of the library’s future. Through our new partnership with the Friends of the Fondation de France, U.S. donors can now support the library and receive tax benefits. We’re hosting a relaxed online information evening to explain how it works, answer your questions, and share a little about what your support can help make possible — from our new space to our growing collections and programmes. Dungeon and Dialogues is a collaborative story telling club based on the role-playing game Dungeon and Dragons. Over several sessions once a month on Saturday between 2:30 and 5:30pm shared between a Master and their players, worlds and stories come to life. Membership to the library is a requirement for all participants. Cost : 20€ for the school year. |

Hilary Hodge, the Director of the Angers Literary Festival, recently founded the association Grand West Lit Events to bring free literary programming to the 40,000 English speakers across Western France. The first event will be held in partnership with the English-language Library in Angers at the Musée des Beaux Arts on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 6:30-8:30 pm and will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen and French graphic novelist Antoine Ozanam in conversation with Barbara Diggs about the newly released graphic novel Le Sympathisant, adapted from Nguyen’s acclaimed novel The Sympathizer. They will discuss the creative process of adapting a literary novel into a graphic work; how memory, identity, and politics take on new dimensions through visual storytelling; what is gained and what is inevitably omitted in the art of adaptation; and why the novel’s exploration of the Vietnam War and its legacy continues to be so resonant today. The conversation will be followed by a reception and book signing. The event is free and will be in English. Space is limited so we recommend registering as soon as possible. You can register here. If you’d like to buy a book in advance, you can do so when you register. That will help our bookseller order the right number of books. |

Get on those hiking boots and take some time to revel in the great outdoors! The group “Walk and Talk” organises an easy walk once a month – approximately 10 km, 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon – in order to discover or re-discover the beautiful hiking paths of the Maine-et-Loire. Come along with good walking shoes, protection against rain, cold or heat according to the season…. a bottle of water and a little “en-cas” to keep your stamina up ! Suggested donation for the year – 10 euros. The tentative dates for this fall are: October 23, November 25 & December 18. The group leader will get in touch with you about 2 weeks before each walk so that you can sign up. Maximum number for each walk is 20. For further information you can contact our volunteer |

The Garden Club will visit the Chateau de La Devansaye on October 1 at 2:30 p.m. Join the Garden Club and explore some of the most beautiful private and public gardens around Angers. An optional lunch at a restaurant near the garden is always planned either before or after the garden visit. This activity is open to library members who love gardens—whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply curious. An annual meeting is scheduled in Feburary to vote on the year’s selection of gardens. Monthly guided visits are organized from April to October. While the activity itself is open to library members, participants are responsible for paying the individual entry fee to each garden visited. Garden Club membership is free for library members, with a suggested donation of €10. Please have your library card number ready when registering.

The English-language Library in Angers is organizing a Voter Information table for US citizens living in the Pays de la Loire region. Those who are not yet registered for the November mid-term elections can get the necessary information on how to obtain their Absentee Ballot. The sessions are sponsored by Vote From Abroad, a non-partisan association to help Americans outside the USA to exercise their right to vote. |
