Volunteer Meeting

Join us for the back-into-the-swing-of-things volunteer meeting on Wednesday, September 3rd: starting at 6pm in the library. Call for volunteers! The good news is that big things are planned for the Fall 2025 season! More of the good news is that we need your help… If you have some time to give during the coming year and would like to volunteer for the library, come to this organizational meeting. At this meeting we will explain the different projects and ask you to think about in what way you are able to fit into the plans. If you are not able to attend this meeting, we would be happy to meet with you on an individual basis. |
Garden Club visit

On Thursday, August 7th, the Garden Club will hold its annual picnic at the Parc de Pignerolles in Saint Barthelemy d’Anjou. All are welcome. Send an email to GardenClulb@ellia.org if you would like to join us.

Saturday Reading Group

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people. For this meeting, the group will read « Blonde Roots » by Bernardine Evaristo. Meetings are once a month on Saturday afternoons starting at 3 pm. Open to all library members. To sign up please contact the group coordinator at bookgroup@ellia.org.

AUSTIN DAYS: 4th of July Celebration

À l’occasion de la Fête nationale américaine (Independence Day), la bibliothèque anglophone vous propose une immersion conviviale au Texas, à travers découvertes culinaires et dialogue interculturel lors de deux temps forts. A 11h, conférence par l’Austin Sister Cities International Association (ASCIA) : l’opportunité de découvrir la richesse des liens entre Angers et Austin et de mieux comprendre les spécificités de la vie au Texas. A 12h, cocktail apéritif Tex-Mex, typique d’Austin, pour célébrer la culture texane et prolonger ce moment convivial dans une ambiance chaleureuse et gourmande ! |
Garden Club visit

On Thursday afternoon, July 3rd, the Garden Club will visit the Jardin de la Closerie in Fondettes. You can find information about this garden on their website. This guided visit will take place in French. The cost of the visit is 5€. If needed, we can try to arrange a ride for you. We always plan lunch at a nearby restaurant before each garden visit, and you are welcome to bring snacks to enjoy afterward. Heure de conte, comptines et jeux en anglais animée par notre ambassadrice d’Austin, Mishell Magnus Ducloux. Mishell lira l’album « All the World » de Liz Garton Scanlon, autrice Austinite. Enfants de 4 à 8 ans. Gratuit et ouvert au public, sur inscription. Maximum 15 enfants plus parents. |

ENGLISH CAMP COLLÉGIENS Summer 2025 Stage ludique en anglais pendant les vacances scolaires ! 2, 3, 4 juillet, 14h à 17h Cet stage, encadré par des anglophones, s’adresse aux collégiens qui souhaitent améliorer leur compréhension et expression orale en anglais. Durant trois après-midis pendant les vacances scolaires, les collégiens peuvent pratiquer l’anglais dans une ambiance conviviale et découvrir qu’il est amusant de parler cette langue ! Programme :

The Film Club presents « True Grit »

The film club presents a film in English once a month on a Saturday afternoon. June Film Club Selection: True Grit This modern Western delivers gripping action and compelling drama. When a determined teenager (Hailee Steinfeld) sets out to avenge her father’s death, she enlists the help of a tough U.S. Marshal (Jeff Bridges). Joined by a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon), the unlikely trio embarks on a perilous journey marked by courage, justice, and grit. Watch the trailer here. The film will be followed by a discussion in English. This activity is free and open to all library members.

Reading Shakespeare

Treat yourself to an afternoon of a collective reading of one of Shakespeare’s plays. This activity consists of watching a BBC production on DVD and then reading relative scenes. AUSTIN DAYS: Talk on the life of Private Charles Shay by Marie-Pascale Legrand

À l’occasion des 80 ans de la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la bibliothèque anglophone propose un temps d’échange dédié à la mémoire d’un témoin direct de la guerre et de la Libération : Charles Shay, vétéran ayant participé notamment au débarquement en Normandie (le « D-Day ») en juin 1944. L’intervenante, Marie-Pascale Legrand, soignante et autrice, accompagne Charles dans les dernières années de sa vie et lui a consacré une biographie touchante. Elle vient évoquer l’engagement de Charles, malheureusement trop âgé pour le partager lui-même. Une rencontre qui rend hommage au rôle majeur des Etats-Unis dans la Libération et aux liens d’amitié durables qui unissent les peuples américain et français, à la lumière d’Austin et Angers. |
