Volunteer Meeting

Join us for the back-into-the-swing-of-things volunteer meeting on Wednesday, September 3rd: starting at 6pm in the library.

Call for volunteers! The good news is that big things are planned for the Fall 2025 season! More of the good news is that we need your help… If you have some time to give during the coming year and would like to volunteer for the library, come to this organizational meeting. At this meeting we will explain the different projects and ask you to think about in what way you are able to fit into the plans. If you are not able to attend this meeting, we would be happy to meet with you on an individual basis.

AUSTIN DAYS: Talk on the life of Private Charles Shay by Marie-Pascale Legrand

AUSTIN DAYS: Talk on the life of Private Charles Shay by Marie-Pascale Legrand

To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the English-language Library invites you to a special conversation in memory of a direct witness to the war and the Liberation: Charles Shay, a veteran who notably took part in the Normandy landings (“D-Day”) in June 1944.

Marie-Pascale Legrand, a caregiver and author who accompanied Charles during the final years of his life and wrote a moving biography about him, will lead the event. As Charles is now too elderly to share his story himself, she will speak on his behalf and honor his legacy.

This event pays tribute to the vital role played by the United States in the Liberation and celebrates the enduring friendship between the American and French people, seen through the lens of Austin and Angers.
