Saturday Reading Group

Saturday Reading Group | 21/09/2019 | 3:00 pm-4:30 pm

Saturday Reading Group

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people.

The September read for the group is Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. It’s undoubtedly one of Agatha Christie’s greatest mystery novels. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.

Meetings are once a month on Saturday afternoons starting at 3 pm. Open to all library members. To sign up please contact the group coordinator at bookgroup@ellia.org.

Book Club reads “Women in Love”

Book Club reads “Women in Love” | 20/09/2019 | 2:30 pm-4:00 pm

Book Club reads "Women in Love"

The September read for the book club is “Women in Love” by D. H. Lawrence.

Lawrence’s finest, most mature novel initially met with disgust and incomprehension. In the love affairs of two sisters, Ursula with Rupert and Gudrun with Gerald, critics could only see a sorry tale of sexual depravity and philosophical obscurity. Women in Love is, however, a profound response to a whole cultural crisis. The ‘progress’ of the modern industrialized world had led to the carnage of the First World War.

To join the book club please send an email to the group coordinator here.
