Earth Day - Great Global (solo) cleanup

Join the library’s community for a litter pick…everyone on their own to keep everyone safe! On Earth Day, starting at 3 pm from wherever you are, take a walk on the wild side (or in town!) and pick up any litter that you see. This is the largest global event in existence, why not be part of it and join the army of well-intended souls cleaning up the planet Earth all at the same time? Remember to wear gloves to protect yourself, sort the trash that you have found according to your local rules and take a picture of yourself with your mountain of trash to send to the library! We will print and post all pictures in the library on our screen so as not to print…after all, this is all about saving the planet.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day, April 22nd, is celebrated around the world as a moment to stop and think about how to best preserve the planet Earth. A non-profit organisation centralises the events that take place.

EARTHDAY.ORG’s mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Growing out of the first Earth Day in 1970, EARTHDAY.ORG is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet.

EARTHDAY.ORG is honored that the Biden Administration has decided to convene a global climate summit on Earth Day 2021. Many important environmental events have happened on Earth Day since 1970, including the recent signing of the Paris Agreement, as Earth Day continues to be a momentous and unifying day each and every year. We look forward to being a part of this historic climate summit and making active progress to Restore Our Earth.

« Think Big, Think Green » invites Beverly and Stephane Ott to talk about their family farm & sustainable farm project

« Think Big, Think Green » invites Beverly and Stephane Ott to talk about their family farm & sustainable farm project | 09/04/2021 | 10:00 am-11:00 am

Join the library for a Zoom talk by Zoom with Beverly Ott and Stephane Ott-Hauville (mother and son team!) for the library’s second speaker event for the « Think Big, Think Green » speaker series. Family farms? Here you have a wonderful example!

Beverly Ott is co-founder and director of the association ECHOPPE which has been working in West Africa for over 30 years now. (Primarily Togo and Bénin) Beginning with small loans for women in urban areas, ECHOPPE today works with small farmers stimulating projects in agro-écology: beekeeping, forestry, soil conservation and organic farming. She and her husband Olivier also began a farm in Montilliers 20 years ago raising primarily sheep and renting Bed and breakfast rooms.

Their son Stéphane Ott-Hauville grew up around those projects and after graduating in Engineering in Centrale Marseille he spent a year volunteering in Togo on the farm program Planète Paysans. Today, while he works remotely with the Urban Institute in Washington DC, he decided to turn the family farm into a sustainable farm project to explore local solutions to the climate crisis and share ideas with its many visitors.

Beverly and Stéphane will present a dialogue on farming today in Africa and in France including anecdotes of some of the complexities hands-on to project start up.

This talk is free and open to the public. There will be a 40-minute talk followed by a question-and-answer session. Click here for Zoom link.

Meet the artist Warren Podguszer and discover his Art Show!

Meet the artist Warren Podguszer and discover his Art Show! | 27/03/2021 | 2:00 pm-6:00 pm

Meet the artist Warren Podguszer and discover his Art Show!

On Saturday, March 27, meet the artist Warren Podguszer between 2 pm and 6 pm! He will give you a tour of his unique Art Show « Comme une furieuse envie de vivre » and will answer your questions! His exhibit, which will be up until May 4, is free and open to the public during opening hours.

Warren Podguszer or « Wawapod », is 29 years old and lives in Paris. He has been practicing street photography for 6 years. At the beginning of his artistic journey, he created works of art digitally using images and photos. However, very quickly, he felt the urge to work with canvas. He equates painting to cooking, even if he doesn’t really know how to cook. When he paints, he has the impression that he takes ingredients he loves, here and there, and then mixes them to create a dish that makes him feel good!

Through his art, he aims to share nostalgic memories with the public. He tries, most of the time, with a range of colors, to bring to life characters that made us dream during our childhood. He takes great pleasure in creating worlds that mix references from our past or our present. The idea behind his art is also to provoke different reactions from the public by adding sentences to make people think, laugh or to denounce an issue. Passionate about art, he enjoys integrating iconic works of art into his style.

Like a journey inside his head, through his thoughts, dreams and inspirations.
