Children’s Hour introduces kids to English in a fun way through stories, nursery rhymes, songs, games and crafts. Our unique method is tailored to the child’s age and English level and is wonderful for building vocabulary and confidence. It is a weekly activity that takes place in the library on Wednesdays, except during school holidays. This event is a free trial for families interested in signing their children up for the 2024-2025 school year, which will start on 25 September 2024 and end on 11 June 2025. By reservation only ! Garden Club visit
 |
Our June visit will be to the Jardin Exotique du Moulin Neuf in Ingrandes-Le Fresne-sur-Loire. This garden of 2700 square meters includes cacti, palm trees, Agaves, a blue Yucca, bamboo, roses, water lilies, aromatic plants, and more. The owner says “a little English” will be possible. The cost of 10€ includes a drink together after the tour. Parking is available in a neighbor’s field, and an outdoor bar and benches will allow us to have snack afterward. If you would like to join for lunch, a noon lunch has been reserved for us at Au Poisson
d’Argent, located at Le Port, in Le Mesnil-en-Vallee. Leur ardoise offers a menu for 16€ that includes entrée, plat, and dessert OR cheese. Drinks extra.

Write Here, Write Now!

Welcome to “Write Here, Write Now”! Writing and sharing : join this series of workshops for people who love to write in English and don’t mind sharing what they’ve written (although this sharing is not mandatory). We’ll explore different themes and genres. Keenan Brown, a library volunteer, will guide you through different ways to stimulate your writing, keep you inspired, all in the company of lovers of literature. “You can make anything by writing” (C.S. Lewis). Following Lewis’s invitation, let’s explore the world at large, as well as your own secret gardens through words…while discovering the unknown realms of the writing of others. Workshops will be run Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the library once a month. They are free for library members (maximum of 10 participants). Saturday Reading Group

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people. For this meeting, the group will read “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” by Mark Haddon. Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals
and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no
understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the
color yellow. This improbable story of Christopher’s quest to investigate the suspicious
death of a neighborhood dog – and undercover secret information about his mother –
makes for one of the most captivating, unusual, and widely heralded novels in recent
years.

The group “Walk and Talk” organises an easy walk once a month – approximately 10 km, 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon – in order to discover or re-discover the beautiful hiking paths of the Maine-et-Loire. Come along with good walking shoes, protection against rain, cold or heat according to the season…. a bottle of water and a little “en-cas” to keep your stamina up ! Textile Arts & Crafts Workshop

If you enjoy exploring all forms of textile and multimedia art, this activity is for you. We experiment with many different techniques (embroidery, weaving, patchwork, quilting, collages…) and we take pleasure in sharing and exploring various types of work together. Lately we have completed individual and shared projects which may be displayed. No previous expertise required. Just come and join us! |
