Reading Shakespeare

Treat yourself to an afternoon of a collective reading of one of Shakespeare’s plays. This activity consists of watching a BBC production on DVD and then reading relative scenes. Bridge Club

Come and play (simple) Bridge (cardgame) at the library! Engage in a brain-stimulating sport: the Mini Bridge Exclusive Society. Discover, learn and play Mini Bridge in a relaxed, casual and informal ambiance. Mini Bridge, as developed by MBES allows and encourages
…in a nutshell, MBES (Mini Bridge Exclusive Society) proposes a different concept from the competing conventional Bridge Clubs. It is free and open to members of the library. Please contact the library to join!

Walk and Talk

Get on those hiking boots and take some time to revel in the great outdoors! The group « Walk and Talk » organises an easy walk once a month – approximately 10 km, 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon – in order to discover or re-discover the beautiful hiking paths of the Maine-et-Loire. Come along with good walking shoes, protection against rain, cold or heat according to the season…. a bottle of water and a little « en-cas » to keep your stamina up ! Book Club reads « Beloved »

The September read for the book club is « Beloved » by Tony Morrison. “Beloved, novel by Toni Morrison, published in 1987 and winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. The work examines the destructive legacy of slavery as it chronicles the life of a Black woman named Sethe, from her pre-Civil War days as a slave in Kentucky to her time in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1873. » The Book Club is full for the 2024-2025 year. Knit and Natter

Come along and bring your knitting, Have a natter while you’re sitting, Or learn to knit with wool provided, Needles loaned and stitches guided. Knitted garments are très chic, So be in vogue and start this week. Knit and Natter is a free activity, open to all library members. No need to reserve, just come and enjoy! If anyone has some extra yarn please bring it in. |

Books and tea

“Books and Tea” is a monthly meeting, on a Thursday, for bookworms and tea drinkers. Bring a book you’ve really enjoyed, talk about it and pass it on! The group meets from 2:15 to 3:45 at La P’tite Cigogne, 23 rue du Musée in Angers. No need to sign up, just come and enjoy! |
Fundraiser: The library’s food stand at Les Accroche-cœurs!

Get ready for three days of great street theater in Angers and some delicious food made by the volunteers at the library! The Accroche-coeurs is a yearly festival in Angers. Each year, the city makes a selection of organizations to run food stands and raise money for their operations. The library is very fortunate to have been selected this year! Stay tuned for more information regarding our food stand’s location and menu! We are a registered nonprofit and 100% of the proceeds will go towards funding our cultural programming. Volunteer Meeting…starts at 10am!

Join us for the back-into-the-swing-of-things Volunteer Meeting on Friday, September 6th at 10 am sharp. This is a call for volunteers and we’ve got good news. There are big things planned for the fall and we need your help! If you have some free time and would like to volunteer for the library in the coming year, come to this organizational meeting. At this meeting, we will explain the different projects for the year ahead and ask you to think in what ways you could play a part. If you are not able to attend this meeting, Lena (our volunteer coordinator) would be happy to meet with you on an individual basis. Simply send an email to Lena or just drop in and say hi! |
