Nuits de la Lecture: Music and readings by Nathanael De Vries

Nuits de la Lecture: Music and readings by Nathanael De Vries | 22/01/2025 | 6:30 pm-7:30 pm

Nuits de la Lecture: Music and readings by Nathanael De Vries

Come and explore the transformative power of music through the lens of fiction.
Follow characters as they attend historical performances of patriotic songs.
Observe how these events form an intersection of the personal and collective
experiences. Music can bring a political ideal to life while resonating with our
most private dreams and hopes. In a literary context, these iconic interpretations
are both moments of truth and mythical constructions.

Join us for an evening of discussion and live musical illustrations (performed by the speaker on his electric keyboard). Works by Sherman Alexie and Richard Powers will provide us with examples.

Nathanael De Vries teaches drums at the Conservatoire d’Angers (CRR) and a
course on popular music at Université Catholique de l’Ouest (UCO). From 2019 to
2022, he ran Lit Me with Music, a blog dealing with musical references in works of
fiction.

This event is free and open to the public as part of the nationwide 2025 Nuits de la Lecture program.
