Absentee Ballots for Americans - Session 2

The English-language Library in Angers is organizing a Voter Information table for US citizens living in Maine-et-Loire. Those who are not yet registered for the November presidential elections can get the necessary information on how to obtain their Absentee Ballot. The sessions are sponsored by Vote From Abroad, a non-partisan association to help Americans outside the USA to exercise their right to vote.

Fall Fundraiser:  Big, Big Book Sale (BBB)

It’s time for our next BIG, BIG BOOK SALE (BBB)! 

Come to the library and browse through hundreds of second-hand books in English that we’ll have for sale.  Whatever your reading style or level is, we’ll have something for you:  children’s books, young adult fiction, crime thrillers, classic novels, non-fiction (gardening, cooking), biographies, autobiographies and many, many more!

The cost is 2€ per book.  If you buy 5 books, you’ll get a 6th book free!  We will be open from 10:00 to 18:00, but we encourage you to come early before our hottest titles go!

And that’s not all.  We’ll also have an assortment of homemade baked goods for sale.  You don’t want to miss out!

This event is open to the public.

We are a registered nonprofit and the BBB is a bi-annual library fundraiser in which we sell books that have been generously donated to us by our community in order to raise money to fund our operations.  It is an important event that allows us to continue to thrive and offer quality books and services. 

If you are interested in donating your gently used books, you may bring them to the front desk of the library before Saturday, September 28th.  Thank you for your continued support!

Saturday Reading Group

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people.  For this meeting, the group will read “Before I Go to Sleep” by S.J. Watson.

Before I Go to Sleep (2011) is the debut novel of English writer S. J. Watson. This psychological thriller features a protagonist suffering from amnesia. Forty-seven-year-old Christine Lucas wakes every morning with no memory of who or where she is. Each day she must reconstruct her identity with the help of her journal. Christine also gleans information from her husband, Ben, and a neurophysiologist, Dr. Nash. However, the more Christine discovers, the more she doubts the truth of what she is told.”

Luncheon Club (10th Anniversary Lunch) | 08/10/2024 | 12:30 pm-2:30 pm

Do you love French food and restaurants? Would you like to speak English more, but in a relaxed environment? Join the Luncheon Club! Enjoy a meal and great conversation in English once a month at a local restaurant. This activity is open to library members. Spaces are limited. On October 8th, the Luncheon Club will celebrate its 10th anniversary!
To honor this milestone, we’ll be dining at a location we used during our first year of existence.  The restaurant itself is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Serendipity or what ?!
For this special occasion, we have increased the limit on the number of participants
to 30.  Hurry and reserve your spot before it fills up!

Come and play (simple) Bridge (cardgame) at the library! Engage in a brain-stimulating sport: the Mini Bridge Exclusive Society. Discover, learn and play Mini Bridge in a relaxed, casual and informal ambiance. Mini Bridge, as developed by MBES allows and encourages

  • conversations while playing the game,
  • comments and remarks before, during and after the game,
  • second thoughts,
  • not taking oneself too seriously,

…in a nutshell, MBES (Mini Bridge Exclusive Society) proposes a different concept from the competing conventional Bridge Clubs.

Come along and bring your knitting,

Needles loaned and stitches guided.

Knitted garments are très chic,

So be in vogue and start this week.

Join us on October 11th from 10am – 11am for a talk on The U.S. Presidential Electoral Process by U.S. Consul for Western France, Emily Cintora. This event will provide valuable insights into how the U.S. election system works. Free and open to the public – this is a great opportunity to stay informed during this pivotal election season!

Note this talk will be in English with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America, France.

Treat yourself to an afternoon of a collective reading of one of Shakespeare’s plays. This activity consists of watching a BBC production on DVD and then reading relative scenes.
