“Books and Tea” is a monthly meeting for bookworms and tea drinkers (but coffee drinkers are welcome too!). Bring a book you’ve really enjoyed, talk about it and pass it on! No need to sign up, just come and enjoy! |
Film club “Hedy Lamarr: From Extase to Wifi”

The library is pleased partner with the Université d’Angers for the Mois du Genre with the showing of “Hedy Lamarr: From Extase to Wifi” a film about the true story of Hollywood glamour queen Hedy Lamarr, the uncredited inventor of technology that would lead to the cell phone and Bluetooth. The film follows the life story of Lamarr from her youth as the daughter of assimilated Austrian Jews through her rise to fame, the Nazi onslaught, her departure for the United States, six marriages, her acting career, her landmark invention, decline, and finally her death at the age of 85 in the year 2000. Screening begins at 3 o’clock sharp with an introduction and followed by a discussion in English by Taina TUHKUNEN, professor of American literature and film at the Université d’Angers. Reading Shakespeare

Treat yourself to an afternoon of a collective reading of one of Shakespeare’s plays. This activity consists of watching a BBC production on DVD and then reading relative scenes. This is a great activity for lovers of language and fans of the great wit. Free and open to all library members. For more information or to sign-up, please contact the group coordinator here. Walk and Talk

With spring just around the corner it is just the right time to sign up to this new activity. Get on those hiking boots and take some time to revel in the great outdoors! The idea is to organise an easy walk once a month – approximately 10 km, 2 to 3 hours, in the afternoon – in order to discover or re-discover the beautiful hiking paths of the Maine-et-Loire. Come along with good walking shoes, protection against rain, cold or heat according to the season…. a bottle of water and a little “en-cas” to keep you going ! Knit and Natter

Come along and bring your knitting, Have a natter while you’re sitting, Or learn to knit with wool provided, Needles loaned and stitches guided. Knitted garments are très chic, So be in vogue and start this week. Knit and Natter is a free activity, open to all library members. No need to reserve, just come and enjoy! If anyone has some extra yarn please bring it in. |

Coffee House

The library is back to serving coffee (and tea!) during Coffee House, isn’t that great? Join the library community for a special moment to talk about anything and everything (in English of course!). Just come in and chat with others, have a cuppa and enjoy the company! Coffee House is free and open to all library members. No need to reserve! |
Textile Art & Crafts
 |
If you would like to do textile arts while speaking in English, this activity is for you! Participants create textile pieces of their choice using any technique that suits them: embroidery, patchwork, quilting, weaving, collages. It is also a great opportunity for each person to learn new techniques. Covid protocol require that you bring your own materials. Open to library members. If you would like to join the group who meets once a month, if possible, please sign up at the front desk. |
Pizza and Board Games

Join us for our ever-popular game night and pizza party! Cost is 7 euros (covers pizza and non-alcoholic drinks, 5 euros for native English speakers and children under 13). Event starts at 6 pm sharp. Last entry at 6:15 pm. First come, first serve with 40 participants max. Children under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult. |
BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby)

Are you a new mom or dad and looking to meet other English-speaking parents in the area? The BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) group is a way for families with young children to connect and chat about anything and everything related to the journey into parenthood. This group is for English-speaking parents with a baby (or babies!) under 3 years old so be sure to bring them along! Bilingual and multilingual families are welcome, too. The group will meet one Saturday a month from 4:15-5:15pm in the Kids Corner of the library. This activity is free for library members.
