Book Club reads “April in Spain” | 19/04/2024 | 3:00 pm-4:30 pm

Book Club reads "April in Spain"

The April read for the book club is “April in Spain” by John Banville.

“On the idyllic coast of San Sebastian, Spain, Dublin pathologist Quirke is struggling to relax, despite the beaches, cafés and the company of his disarmingly lovely wife. When he glimpses a familiar face in the twilight at Las Acadas bar, it’s hard at first to tell whether his imagination is just running away with him.”

To join the book club please send an email to the group coordinator here.

The cost is 2€ per book.  If you buy 5 books, you’ll get a 6th book free!  We will be open from 10:00 to 18:00, but we encourage you to come early before our hottest titles go!

And that’s not all.  We’ll also have an assortment of plants and baked goods for sale.  You don’t want to miss out!

This event is open to the public.

The BBB is a bi-annual library fundraiser in which we sell books that have been generously donated to us by our community in order to raise money to fund our operations.  It is an important event that allows us to continue to thrive and offer quality books and services.

If you are interested in donating your gently used books, you may bring them to the front desk of the library before Saturday, April 13th.  Thank you for your continued support of our organization!

Saturday Reading Group | 20/04/2024 | 3:00 pm-4:30 pm

Saturday Reading Group

The Saturday Reading Group is for anyone who loves to read, socialize in English, and meet new people.  For this meeting, the group will read “Normal People” by Sally Rooney.

The feverishly anticipated second novel from the young author of 2017’s most
acclaimed debut Conversations with Friends. Connell and Marianne grow up in the
same small town in rural Ireland. The similarities end there; they are from very different
worlds. When they both earn places at Trinity College in Dublin, a connection that has
grown between them lasts long into the following years. This is an exquisite love story
about how a person can change another person’s life – a simple yet profound realisation
that unfolds beautifully over the course of the novel. It tells us how difficult it is to talk
about how we feel and it tells us – blazingly – about cycles of domination, legitimacy and
privilege. Alternating menace with overwhelming tenderness, Sally Rooney’s second
novel breathes fiction with new life.

Meetings are once a month on Saturday afternoons starting at 3 pm. Open to all library members. To sign up please contact the group coordinator at bookgroup@ellia.org.
